Abstract

This study examines the development of the Indonesian language in the digital age, focusing on the influence of social media on spelling and grammar. With the rise of digital communication platforms like WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, the way people use language has changed significantly. The research explores how social media shapes language usage, particularly in terms of informal writing, shortened forms, and creative expressions. The findings suggest that while social media has led to the adoption of new linguistic norms, it has also caused a relaxation of formal language rules. The study further highlights the potential consequences of this trend on formal education and language policy.
